Sometime at the end of December a change was made either in Thunderbird or Microsoft which requires you to disable IPv6 in Thunderbird. Thunderbird IMAP says "User is authenticated but not connected" message If IMAP is enabled for your mailbox you can configure the mail client to use the following settings. We will look at the request and make the determination as to whether or not there is sufficient reason to enable IMAP for your mailbox. Since IMAP is disabled by default for all user mailboxes you will need to complete a HelpCenter ticket and request IMAP be enabled for your mailbox.
For Linux users we recommend Mozilla Thunderbird be used. Outlook 365 and Outlook for Mac, which can be downloaded through the interface, are recommended if a desktop e-mail application is needed. Outlook Web App () is the preferred method.
If your emails do not start loading automatically, click on Inbox again to trigger a sync request.We highly recommend using Microsoft Outlook when accessing e-mail. There may then be another prompt for “Permissions requested” Thunderbird is would like to: followed by a list of access items.If you are asked to remain signed in, select No as the app will remember your account information/stay signed in.You do not need to check the Remember me for 30 days because the mail app will remember your account information. You will get a Duo prompt. Authenticate through Duo as you normally would.Enter Kerberos password and click Sign in. After a second of loading, the BU ADFS sign-in page will load in a mini-browser/kiosk window. Click on Inbox underneath the BU account.Close Tools/Preferences and go back to the inbox tab/window.These settings should automatically be saved.This step is needed because the Authentication Method needed (OAuth2) is not available in the manual configuration server settings drop-down menu. A pop-up will appear asking to confirm that you wish to proceed to advanced configuration, click OK.Leave the remaining information as is – for now.You will be prompted to enter your server settings. Use Configure manually on the Thunderbird client to open server settings.Authentication will likely fail at first.Enter your full name (it will be used when sending emails from this account), your full BU email address, and your Kerberos password.In Thunderbird, go to Tools > Account Settings.
